Berry Owen Pyron

May II, 1922 --December 2,2002

This memorial service is being held on the Ga. Tech Campus to celebrate the life of Berry Pyron in the location where he spent the majority of his professional life. Berry received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ga. Tech in Physics in 1949 and a Master of Science Degree in 1952. He was a member of the Faculty at Georgia Tech for 40 years and was a Senior Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute ( GTRl) when he retired in 1987. During this period, he held several positions including Assistant Professor of Physics, and Assistant Director of the Systems and Techniques Laboratory within GTRl. Mr. Pyron was a member of the Scientific Honor Society, Sigma Xi, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

During World War II, Mr. Pyron served in the armed forces in the Signal Corps and was assigned to the Navy in the Pacific theater where he received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star .

Mr Pyron was born in Atlanta on May 11, 1922 to William Jacob Pyron and Rosa Moore Pyron. He had one brother , William Jacob Pyron Jr. (deceased). Mr Pyron grew up in Atlanta on Highland Avenue and had many family ties to Macon, Jones, and Green Counties. He is survived by his wife, Amy Collins Pyron and niece, Margaret Pyron Arey .

Mr. Pyron had a life-long interest in astronomy and the archaeology of Central America and the Yucatan. He was a founding member of the Atlanta Astronomy Club and active for many years. He made numerous trips to Yucatan to study and collect artifacts and gems.

It has been said that one's immortality is the fond memories that remain in the minds of their friends and loved ones. Berry once said that he thought the best way to bid one goodbye was to have a wake party. We are here to share our memories of him. Berry, this is your party.
